A Year in Sewanee – March April 3, 2024 This is installment 3 in a project to document a year in Sewanee with five photos taken each month on the Sewanee Domain. See the February post here. Nature: In mid-March I ran across a small patch of Virginia bluebells in Abbo’s Alley. Native to most of Eastern North America, bluebells are a favorite of hikers, generally growing in moist woodland areas and blooming in March and April. Scenic: It’s a challenge to get the same picturesque feel of the golf course view in a photo as in person. Officially known as The Course at Sewanee, this 9-hole course with a great bluff view has been in use for over 100 years and was redesigned in 2013. Weather / sky: This video captures a low, thin fog rolling across the surface of Lake Cheston on the first weekend of spring. Urban: On Easter weekend I took a number of photos of the large patches of daffodils growing in front of Walsh-Ellett and Convocation Halls. It was a tough choice to select just one, but ultimately, I went with this one because of the background touch added by the sunlit columned walkway beside Walsh-Ellett Hall. Farm: The goats seemed to be enjoying the new spring pasture growth. This view takes in several blooming trees along Breakfield Road, as wells the farm greenhouses and gardens in the distance, Watch next month for photos from April. Text and photos by Bob Butters.
