A Year in Sewanee – April

This is installment 4 in a project to document a year in Sewanee with five photos taken each month on the Sewanee Domain.

See the March post here.

Nature: In early April, much of Shakerag Hollow was carpeted with a profusion of purple-colored phacelia. It tended to be higher up the slopes below Green’s View than I’ve seen it before.
Scenic: On the same day as the above photo, this was the early spring scene from the Green’s View overlook. Looking north, the western escarpment of the Cumberland Plateau meets the farmland of the Eastern Highland Rim.
Weather / sky: Near the end of the month, I felt this scene captured both ends of our water supply, from clouds of moisture to the tank supplying our tap water.

Urban: The old Depot building is in the early stages of being transformed into a Mountain Goat Trailhead / Sewanee Welcome Center. It now features two kiosks (like the one on the far left), a bench, bike racks, and a bike repair station.

Farm: My apologies for the poor quality of this shot taken with my phone, of Equestrian Center horses enjoying spring pasture grazing. It turned out to be the only photo from April I had that was farm related.

Watch next month for photos from May.
