Petition Demands Transparency from the State of Tennessee Concerning Broadcasting Tower Project

  •  Although Friends of the Parks did not author this petition, we support it and have been actively involved in the issue. The state is expanding and upgrading the emergency radio communication network across the state (which we heartily support). However, we are concerned that the process for selecting sites for new towers has not been thorough or transparent, has not included TDEC park administrators’ input, and has not considered the impact on vital areas such as viewsheds in the Savage Gulf State Park. We are calling on TACN to:
  • Fully analyze all viable options – including both alternate locations and technologies – and all their various implications, including impact on the state parks (to date they seem to have evaluated only one site),
  • Include key stakeholders, especially TDEC, in the evaluation and decision-making, and
  • Communicate the process, including the pros and cons of all options, with the community, Friends, and other stakeholders.

As someone concerned about the impact of towers with flashing lights on Stone Door and other viewsheds, we encourage you to sign the petition encouraging a more thorough and transparent analysis of the options.

Sign the petition.
