A photography project for 2025, where each month I present several of my favorite photos taken during the preceding month.
September proved to be a very fruitful month for photography, largely due to a visit to the Huntsville Botanical Garden, a nature photographer’s paradise.
These lotus plants cover a large area of water on Crow Creek at Stevenson, Alabama. A backwater of Lake Guntersville, the Crow Creek Refuge, accessed from Stevenson Town Park, is one of my favorite places to canoe.Also at Crow Creek, this is one of my more successful attempts at photographing egrets. Their white color tends to make them quite challenging to get a good photo of. The remaining photos are all from the Huntsville Botanical Garden. A major highlight was the Purdy Butterfly House, considered one of the nation’s premier open-air butterfly habitats. Not sure I’ve seen this particular species before, but this is one of several that I saw there. This monarch is the first butterfly I’ve ever seen with a label on it. It says “Monarch Watch.”The turtles there were very tame. Apparently, they’re used to having people around.This reflection pool included a sculpture of a blue heron standing on a turtle and holding a catfish.These Victoria water lilies were just some of the attractions at the Damson Aquatic Garden.
