This is a new photography project for 2025, where each month I’ll present several of my favorite photos taken during the preceding month.
On New Year’s Day I ran across this cocoon along Sewanee’s Perimeter Trail. Not sure what made it. This is an outer covering made of leaves. Inside, as seen in the photo below, is an inner, spun cocoon. Unsure how it got opened, or if that would be fatal to whatever is inside. For some reason I’m always fascinated by the bikes that get left outside Quintard Hall during Christmas break and then get covered with snow. I was also fascinated by these patterns in the ice on a frozen over Lake Cheston. I’m unsure if they’re cracks in the ice that refroze, or if the tree branches overhead that you can see reflected had something to do with it.
Watch next month for February’s photos.
