Sewanee in Wood and Stone – May

A 2026 photo project featuring the interplay of nature and architecture on the Sewanee campus.

Mid-May brought this view of Shapard Tower between the trees, looking across the Quad from the balcony of Walsh-Ellett Hall.
In late May I was drawn to this leaning and gnarly oak tree by Bishop’s Common.
The tower of St. Luke’s Chapel against a blue sky with a few cirrus clouds.
I suppose it’s obvious by now that the oak-leaf hydrangeas behind All Saints’ Chapel is a favorite theme of this project. Here at the end of May, they were in full bloom.
There was just something about this scene of McClurg Dining Hall with the lighting and the dark clouds overhead.
